  • Phonological Awareness

    • Check how well children can hear and work with sounds in words (rhyming, blending, segmenting, syllables, phoneme manipulation).

      • Phonological Awareness Screeners, CTOPP subtests

  • Assess how children use phonics to read unfamiliar words, and how quickly they recognize common sight words.

    • Nonsense Word Fluency, Word Attack tasks, High-Frequency Word Fluency

  • Identify developmental spelling patterns and how children apply phonics and rules in writing.

    • Words Their Way Spelling Inventory, Developmental Spelling Analysis

  • Measure how accurately and fluently children read passages aloud.

    • DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency, Running Records (PM Benchmarks, Fountas & Pinnell, OG IMSE assessments)

  • Check understanding at literal, inferential, and evaluative levels, using questions, retells, and cloze tasks.

    • Collect writing samples to evaluate sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, organization, and vocabulary.

    • Track developmental writing stages from early emergent to fluent writer.

  • Assess listening comprehension and expressive skills through story retells, sequencing, and vocabulary use.

    • Monitor progress in reading, spelling, writing, and maths through short, timed probes.

  • In addition to the assessments I administer independently, I also collaborate with psychologists, speech and language therapists, and other clinicians when a fuller evaluation is needed. In these cases, I contribute educational data and observations and may use additional tools under their guidance, so families receive a clear and well-rounded picture of their child’s learning profile.
